About Us

Over three decades of experience, independence and high standards of transparency and excellence

Since the founding of Lara, May & Associates (“LMA”) in 1981, our mission has been simple, clear and unwavering: to provide our clients with comprehensive wealth management services; independent and transparent advice; as well as exceptional service, provided by a dedicated team of seasoned professionals.  Wealth adds much complexity to life.  Our goal is to help clients navigate and simplify those complexities, so they can focus their time and energy on the things they value the most.

While we are headquartered in Virginia, our clients span the U.S. and internationally.  They include affluent individuals and families, businesses, pensions, foundations and professional associations.  Our firm’s culture is focused on building long-term relationships by putting our client’s best interest first.

In 2007, Focus Financial Partners (“Focus”) recognized LMA’s impressive legacy with clients and extended an invitation for partnership.  Focus is the leading international partnership of independent fiduciary wealth management firms. By joining this partnership, LMA became part of an organization that boasts a distinguished collective knowledge base in the independent wealth management arena, adding to our own efficiency, scale and breadth of expertise.

The custodians for our client’s assets and accounts are large, well-recognized organizations. We offer the custodial services of First Clearing, LLC1, Charles Schwab, Fidelity/Morningstar, and TD Ameritrade.  These organizations are independent from LMA and provide convenient 24/7 online account access. In addition, as a registered broker-dealer, we maintain a fully disclosed clearing relationship with First Clearing, LLC.

1First Clearing is a member of the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ and other major exchanges, and is a registered broker-dealer and non-bank affiliate of Wells Fargo & Company.
