My love and dedication for financial planning began long before my first job in the financial industry more than ten years ago. It started with a realization of the importance of money when my family struggled to make ends meet in the post-soviet Russia, in the times when hyperinflation and banks’ bankruptcies would wipe out people’s hard earned savings in a flash. I knew then that money was something very important and I had to learn everything there was to know about it to be in control of my future. In college I realized a deep desire to help other people do the same.

My professional mission is to help clients take care of their financial lives so that money concerns and anxieties don’t take their focus away from things truly important to them and their families. I work with clients in all aspects of financial planning process: from high-level analysis to holding their hand through difficult times. I want our clients to feel confident that when it comes to their finances, they are in caring hands.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a minor in Business Administration from George Mason University where I later earned a Master’s in Business Administration. I hold FINRA series 7, 31 and 66 designations and am life and health insurance licensed. I obtained the CFP® designation in 2015, awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. CFP professionals have voluntarily agreed to abide by high standards of ethical conduct and client service.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, jazz, opera, and photography. Originally from Moscow, Russia, I reside in Fairfax, Virginia with my daughter, Anya.

Paul Corley joined LMA in 2009. His in-depth experience and devoted client commitment allows Paul to best understand his clients’ needs.  Paul believes, “Understanding clients’ needs, goals and objectives is the basis to the whole planning and investment process and, ultimately, is integral to the client’s success.”

Paul’s primary focus is managing discretionary investment portfolios, as well as individual separate accounts.  Paul attributes LMA’s vast resources to his ability to implement a clear and efficient program targeted towards clients’ goals.

Prior to joining LMA, Paul spent over 15 years in the financial services industry managing client portfolios,  eight of which were spent working as a Portfolio Manager and Financial Planning Specialist at Smith Barney. As Paul explains,  “My interest in planning and investing began while working as a human resources manager in the early 80’s. I discovered that the overwhelming majority of retirement plan participants had little or no experience identifying their goals, managing their investment plans or designing investment strategies that fit their goals. From this realization, my staff and I began addressing these issues by selecting a new custodian and advisor that would be available to consult with employees and their families. The end result was a higher participation rate, investment selections targeted to individual retirement goals, and an increase in goodwill for all.”

Prior to entering the wealth management arena, Paul spent 16 years in human resource management in the public and private sectors working directly with a variety of corporate and public retirement plans. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, Paul was instrumental in organizing a support group to provide assistance to the victims and families affected by the attack on the U.S. Pentagon. He cites this as one of the most significant and personally moving experiences of his life.

Paul, his wife, Colonel Denise H. Corley, USA  Retired, and their twins, Cole and Megan, reside in Brandenburg, Kentucky.  Their oldest son, graduated from the University of Oklahoma.  When not at work, Paul most enjoys coaching youth sports, golfing, fishing, hunting and attending family events.

I am a seasoned Wealth Management Advisor, a member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors®, facilitator of the Meaningful Future Process™ and nationally recognized speaker on many senior related long term care financial planning topics. I primarily work with seniors, their caregivers and family members, related to all aspects of financial planning for long term care needs. I help develop all-encompassing long term care plans, tax efficient wealth transfer structures and retirement strategies.  Most plans start with my Long Term Care Financial Assessment that addresses various components: from income generation, Medicaid & Veteran’s Administration compliant insurance products to real estate transfer strategies and principal protection, just to name a few. Each client’s situation is completely unique to them, so I work to provide a plan that incorporates their specific goals and needs, while working hand-in-hand with their other senior care providers, estate & elder law attorneys, and accountants to maximize the estate for the long term. This approach helps seniors and families develop an action plan to address their long term care plans, create a foundation based on their goals and set a financial plan in place for themselves and their loved ones.

I began my career in insurance and finance, receiving my license for insurance the FINRA Series 6 in 1993. In 2010, I joined Lara, May & Associates, LLC, so I could work with seniors and their families addressing their long term care financial planning issues.  Previously, I worked in Morgan Stanley’s Global Wealth Management Group focused on wealth accumulation strategies and income producing investments for affluent individuals across the country. It was there that I realized my heart is in helping our aging population and their loved ones during what can be a stressful and difficult time of life. Through the Society of Certified Senior Advisors I earned my CSA designation in 2014. I am a licensed insurance agent (Life, Health, Long Term Care and Disability & Annuities) and financial planner, having completed the FINRA Series 6, 7, 31 and 66 exams, enabling me to provide long term care and comprehensive financial planning in over a dozen states coast-to-coast. I was nominated by my peers and selected for the Northern Virginia Magazine’s Top Financial Professionals list in 2015 and 2016 for both Insurance Planning and Employee Benefits.

Originally a native Virginian, I attended the Northern Virginia Community College and then George Mason University. In service of my country, I was a Sergeant, Antitank Section Leader and in Urban Warfare Special Operations in the Virginia Army National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge in 1990. Today, I am a resident of Florida and am proud to be a ruling elder of my church and involved in a wide variety of volunteer organizations and professional associations nationally that allow me to give back to this great nation that has afforded me so much.

Certified Senior Advisors (CSAs) have supplemented their individual professional licenses, credentials and education with knowledge about aging and working with seniors. It is recommended that you verify the validity of any professional’s credentials is which you conduct business and be sure you completely understand what those licenses, credentials and education signify. The CSA certification alone does not imply expertise in  financial, health or social matters. For more details visit: www.csa.us. I enjoy what I do and am proud of the long standing culture of our firm. As the Chief Compliance Officer of LMA, a dually registered investment advisor with the SEC and FINRA Member broker/dealer, I am responsible for managing the firm’s compliance program.  In my tenure here, I have served in many capacities. I first joined the securities industry in 2000. I came from the internet technology sector as a product manager.  My marketing and product development background served well to help establish and create the firm’s trademarked Retirement Success Solution® and Lifetime Success Solution® processes. As the firm grew I took on more compliance and company administrative functions. In 2010, I was recognized by our parent company, Focus Financial Partners, for my work in our 2010 SEC and FINRA exams.  In 2011 I became the Chief Compliance Officer.

In 2012, I graduated from the Certified Regulatory and Compliance Professional (CRCP)® Program through the FINRA Institute at Wharton. This program was delivered through the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. It provides compliance, legal and regulatory professionals with an in-depth understanding of the foundation, theory and practical application of securities laws and regulation.  I am an active participant in various industry regulatory conferences and educational opportunities.

In addition to my role as the Chief Compliance Officer, I serve as the Financial Operations Principal (FINOP) and hold the FINRA series 6, 7, 24, 28, 63 and 65 registrations. In 2018 I became a non-public FINRA Dispute Resolution Arbitrator, having qualified through the National Arbitration and Mediation Committee.

I am a graduate from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science.  I had previously specialized in product development and marketing in the sports apparel manufacturing and  IT hosting firm. In my spare time, I enjoy creative projects, activities with my husband and kids, and can’t turn down a pick-up game of volleyball.
